What is barrel porting?

This isn’t anything new, barrel porting has been widely used by both competitive and recreational shooters as early as 1972. It’s really simple, you ventilate pressurized gasses from the top of the barrel which in turn, pushes the barrel downwards. It’s an extremely efficient way to mitigate recoil, similar to how a turbo charger uses exhaust gasses to spin a turbine.

Benefits of porting:

• Drastic decrease in muzzle rise

• No extra pieces or hardware to deal with

• Easier to clean and service your pistol

• Holster compatibility

Drawbacks of porting:

• Significantly louder and more concussive

• Permanent modification to your slide & barrel

• 5-10% Muzzle velocity loss

• Slight accuracy loss

Porting Philosophy

You may have noticed our ports and windows are different sizes across multiple makes and models. We don’t have set parameters since there’s so many variables and measurements we’d have to account for. We simply size the window and ports in proportion to your slide. Most of our windows are 10×20mm as seen on our Glocks, but for non-conventional or slim slides, we may scale down to 8×16, or go up to 12×24. The ports are usually 5×3 oblongs (elongated circles). We like the shape for both its soft edges and displacement potential, in short, it has the least shredding and most mitigation properties. We also believe the rounded corners have the least potential for cracking.

Placement is also very important. We prefer them to be as far away from the chamber if possible, this is usually right behind the front sight. The reason behind this allows for both adequate barrel pressure and sufficient rifling engagement while maximizing the mechanical fulcrum of the barrel for the best recoil mitigation. In cases where the barrel is too short, or if the factory window is too close to the chamber, users can expect significantly more pressure leaving from the ports while still significantly reducing recoil.

Not sure what to pick?

Sub-compacts (i.e, Glock 43x, Sig P365, Hellcats) Double port right behind the front sight will eliminate most of the snappiness.

Compacts (i.e, Glock 19, P365XL, CZP10C) Double port if you prefer a mix of recoil reduction and shoot indoors frequently. A straight 4 port will give you a great shooting experience, but may limit you to 124gr and heavier ammo without a lighter spring.

Standard (i.e, Glock 17, M&P 9 2.0, PDP CZP10F) Straight 4 or 6 would both work great

Jumbo (i.e Glock 34, 17L, M&P 9 5”) Standard Straight 6 is the way to go for the most linear recoil impulse.

How long will it take?

Give or take 2 weeks until it’s back in your hands from when you sent it. Custom, special and complex orders will take longer.

How do I mail my slide in?

After placing your order, you’ll be responsible for mailing it in, so be sure to pack it well, preferably in a box. We’ll need your slide, barrel & guide rod to position the barrel correctly. We’ll strip the slide down if needed, including optics. Mailing address:

Can you refinish?

Not yet, but our cuts are clean enough to not require a refinish in 9/10 cases. We deburr, polish and blue the exposed steel, then seal with oil. This is the industry standard and yields a long-lasting finish that won’t rust. If harsh solvents such as alcohol or acetone is used, you’ll have to recoat with your choice of oil. Cerakoted slides will most likely need to be refinished. Stainless and polished surfaces can be sanded smooth.
